About Depression

We are all sad from time to time. No one leads a life where there are not moments that make us upset. This is normal. However, sadness should not be constant.

Here are a few signs that you might be depressed:

  • Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. Do you feel that nothing will ever get better and there’s nothing you can do to improve your situation? If so, you may be depressed.
  • Loss of interest in daily activities. You don’t care anymore about former hobbies, pastimes, social activities. You’ve lost your ability to feel joy and pleasure.
  • Appetite or weight changes. Significant weight loss or weight gain can occur when you are depressed. Have you gained or lossed more than five percent of your body weight in the last month?
  • Sleep changes. Either insomnia, especially waking in the early hours of the morning, or oversleeping.
  • Anger or irritability. From time to time, the sadness can give way to anger and a short temper with those around you.
  • Loss of energy. Are you tired all the time? Do you tell people you are tired as a way of covering up the sadness you feel?
  • Feeling worthless. If you have these feelings along with the sadness, you are most likely depressed.
